Link: AppleInsider's CarPlay wish list for iOS 12

Apr 10, 2018

After seeing release four years ago, Apple's CarPlay continues to gain traction in the automotive world as it bulks up on features with each major revision of iOS. As frequent users of the in-car infotainment platform, we amassed quite a wish list of features and changes we hope to see unveiled alongside iOS 12 at WWDC in June.

The article explores 9 areas in which CarPlay could improve or gain features. May I add my own?
Improved voice input
Siri is the biggest complaint I have when using CarPlay. For as much as she has improved, she still makes huge misses when I ask for directions. More frustrating, believing to be able to exchange messages while driving via voice input is crazy, not much because of dictating the text of the message, but because of all the inputs and feedbacks necessary to even read a new message and replying to it.
Actually, here the issue might not be Siri at all, rather the "voice interface" she is imposed to follow and the (lack of) smartness with which the other apps and services address her inputs.

As I wrote in my iPhone 7 review:

[…] getting directions, sending messages, starting phone calls o playing some music has become a nearly seamless experience. I'd love to say safer, but I can't. Those few times things fail, they force me to get my eyes off the road, especially if directions are taking me the wrong way or I'm trying to place an important phone call.
