Interesting project by Anki. Vector is a home robot with personality, meant to follow you at home and help in various tasks like answering questions or setting timers. As for other Anki's products, Vector will be receiving free over the air updates that will make it smarter as the time passes. You can read all the details on the kickstarter campaign page, on Anki's blog or in the press release.
Macrumors reports that some animators coming from Pixar worked on the project to design the thousand animations that give a look to Vector's personality… just look at the introductory video and you will see and hear facial expressions and sounds definitely similar to WALL-E, EVE and M-O.
The Kickstarter campaign ends Sept. 7, they are already beyond half the pledging goal. If the shipped outside the States I would have seriously thought about buying one.

Update. One more note I forgot last night: I don't know if it's due to the speaker limited size, but I hope a future update will improve Vector's voice
