Apple quarterly financial results Q4 FY18
Nov 10, 2018
As I did for Q1 FY, I tried to bring down Apple quarterly financial results to a more graspable dimension. After all, who can figure how much 62.9 billions are?
I divided every number by weeks, days, hours and seconds, both in terms of numer of devices sold and revenue they generated. The number of weeks in this quarter is 13, days, hours, minutes and seconds follow accordingly.
Last time I assumed Apple sold products 24h/day, but I later thought that wasn't an assumption at all since 1. Apple is a company that sells products in every time zone of the planet and 2. it has online stores that are themselves oper 24/7.
Premises set, let's see what the math shows:
iPhones: 6 iPhones sold each second yielding more than 5,000$/s;
iPads: 1.2 iPads per second, about 600$/s;
Macs: 0.7 Macs/s or, if you prefer, 40 Macs each minute. Devices sold each second is about half of that of iPads, but since ASP is higher, Macs brought short of 1.000$/s;
Services: 1,270$/s;
Others: about 500$s. This is the category that hosts Apple Watches, HomePods, AirPods and Apple TVs. If you allow me some approximation, it means there's either an Apple Watch or an HomePod sold every second, or few AirPods and Apple TV - the latter having had a good quarter according to Luca Maestri;
Beginning next quarter Apple won't be announcing iPhone, iPad and Mac units sold, expect some speculation on what the numbers will actually be.
