AppleCare satisfaction

Nov 30, 2018

The first thing I did 2 years ago, after buying my marvelous MacBook Pro 13" secondhand, was buying an AppleCare Protection plan. The previous owner had used the battery so badly, its health had dropped to 81% after less than 200 cycles and I was worried I would have had to change it at my own expenses.
Two years have passed and the battery has only improved ever since. The Macbook is still running like a clock and I am happier than ever.
Last Saturday, the extended warranty would have expired, so few days earlier I went to the local Apple Premium Reseller to have the MacBook checked before it was too late. I walked to the place and patiently waited my turn.
After a quick inspection, the technician found that the anti-reflective coating had came away from a small portion of the screen and offered to replace it entirely at no expense! I actually though it had been my fault, maybe some dust had scratched the glass upon contact with the keyboard when the lid was closed, but apparently not so. Two days later, my MacBook was back and fixed with a brand new screen to show its beauty.

What have I learnt? The AppleCare is worth its money, especially on used devices of which you don't know the story. Actually, AppleCare wasn't the one to thank for the screen replacement, since I found out the substitution is part of an extended warranty program Apple has issued for defective anti reflection coatings, nonetheless it was a fundamental part of it.
If I hadn't had AppleCare, I wouldn't have gone to the store to check if something had to be replaced: the imperfection was not so bothersome and I didn't want to pour some money into it. Since I had it, though, I felt comfortable seeking for a repair because I knew it wouldn't have costed me anything anyway. The confidence of knowing my Mac could be fixed or replaced gave me the freedom to make sure everything is in perfect shape going forward in the next years of usage, and this is a quite valuable insight for the future time with my trusty MacBook Pro.
