Backblaze goes from 5$ to 6$/month
Feb 13, 2019
Since 2008, we have offered unlimited Computer Backup for $5 per month. Today, after more than a decade of providing unlimited backup at that same price while also continuing to add features and functionality, we are announcing a price increase.
Beginning March 11, Backblase monthly subscription goes from 5$ to 6$, yearly goes from 50$ to 60$, the two-year plan from 95$ to 110$.
While the news didn't leave me happy at first, reading the blog post Backblaze's CEO wrote made total sense to me. This is the first time in 10 years they're raising prices - first time - and I know by experience that backups are getting larger, mine sits at short of 3TB as of now, and they are providing true unlimited backup for everyone.
If you take the yearly plan (I don't know who in the world prefers monthly), that's short of 1$ more per month and totally worth it. Backblaze is even offering existing customers to extend their subscription at the current price, but to tell you the truth, I chose not to take advantage of it. I trust Backblaze to have increased the price because they actually needed it, and I'm glad to give them what they deserve - especially since it's a very little price increase.
Backblaze is the best online backup service you will find, it has gone to great lengths to improve its services and still has the highest features/price ratio of the industry. I've been using it since CrashPlan let me down and cannot praise it enough for how well it has behaved so far.
I'm impatient to see what they will be able to accomplish in the 10 years to come.
